Here's a 1904 Edison Triumph cylinder phonograph with a beautiful banner-front green oak cabinet and an original 11-panel Cygnet horn.
With its massive 3-spring Triton motor, the Triumph was the standard-bearer among Edison's phonograph line-up for almost a decade. When fully wound, it could play for 20 minutes (or longer). It sold for the twice the price of an Edison Home, but the Triumph was much larger and much more formidable, and as Carroll Shelby used to say about his Cobra race cars, "there ain't no substitute for cubic inches."
Condition of this Triumph is excellent throughout. Original Japanned finish on the casting is still deep black and glossy; the original bedplate decorations are still prominent, with only minimal wear; and the original Edison signature is still crisp. The huge Triton motor is in excellent condition, with ample torque. The governor assembly is working properly, and the pitch doesn't waver as a cylinder plays through. All of the gearing beneath the bedplate is clean, and the machine plays quietly, with minimal extraneous noise. The shaving assembly is original and complete.
The green oak cabinet is in good condition, with its original finish still intact. The cabinet decal is original, with no scarring.
The Edison C reproducer is in good condition, with a good stylus, a good diaphragm, and good gaskets.
The No. 11 Cygnet horn is original and in outstanding condition, with only scattered minor marks, hardly any dings, and no touch-ups or repainting. Horn decals are original and nearly perfect.
Clean crank, with glossy original enamel.
The horn crane is later made; everything else is original to the machine.
The phonograph is in excellent working order. It plays great, it looks great, and it will arrive at your door with detailed, easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions so you won't have to guess what to do once you've unpacked it.
I'll include a Gold Moulded 2-minute Edison cylinder in good condition when the phonograph ships.
I'm one of ebay's best known, most highly regarded sellers of collector quality phonographs. I've been selling
and shipping them
for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by
me
, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
