Native to Indonesia, patchouli is a bushy herb in the mint family that typically grows to a height of 2–3 feet and produces small white or pink flowers. Its leaves were used traditionally as a flavoring or herbal tea. Patchouli essential oil contains the naturally occurring constituent patchoulol, which contributes to its earthy aroma.
