VERY RARE ANTIQUE
EDISON DIAMOND DISC RECORD
NUMBER 50985
""Rock Me In My Swanee Cradle": - side L
"When You and I Were Young Maggie Blues"  -side R
Excellent condition considering age. Very minor use it looks like.  Chip on edge on Maggie Blues side at 5:00.
PLEASE NOTE: I have no way of knowing if this plays well for I do not have an Edison Phonograph that only played these records. SOLD AS-IS.
About Edision Diamond Discs:
These Discs were made by Thomas Alva Edison - the phonograph inventor- himself from 1912-1929 to respond to the new desire for phonograph Discs popularized by Victor Records.  Edisons were different in that he made them distinctively 1/4 inc thick, 80 rpms and only able to be played on one of his players that featured a Diamond "needle" instead of a steel one as with other manufacturers.  His records started with number 50000.  By the mid 20's Edison put paper labels over the center where in the beginning the records featured an engraved but hard to read black label with his picture.
These unique records are known because of their unusual size and weight.  They are a collectors or crafters DREAM for collecting or repurposing an antique that is rare and almost or over 100 years old that is a witness to a time when songs like the "Bees Knees" were popular.
